Description

M&M Marshmallow Dream Bars are a colorful, gooey, and irresistibly sweet dessert that combines layers of buttery graham cracker crust, chewy marshmallows, melty chocolate chips, and crunchy M&M candies. Topped with even more M&Ms and marshmallows, these bars are a treat for both the eyes and the taste buds. Perfect for parties, holiday gatherings, or as an indulgent snack, they’re simple to make yet packed with flavor and texture.

Ingredients

Scale

For the base:

  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the filling:

  • 3 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup M&M candies (any variety)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk

For topping:

  • ½ cup additional M&M candies
  • ¼ cup mini marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the graham cracker crumbs and melted butter until fully combined. Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form an even crust.
  3. Sprinkle the mini marshmallows evenly over the graham cracker crust, followed by the M&M candies and semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  4. Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top of the marshmallows, M&Ms, and chocolate chips to bind everything together.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the marshmallows are lightly toasted.
  6. Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle the additional M&Ms and mini marshmallows on top. Lightly press them into the warm bars so they stick.
  7. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
  8. Once chilled, cut into squares or bars and serve.

Notes

Baking Tips

  • Even Layering is Key: To ensure every bite includes all the delicious layers, spread the marshmallows, M&Ms, and chocolate chips evenly across the crust.
  • Watch the Marshmallows: During baking, keep an eye on the marshmallows. They should be lightly toasted but not burned.
  • Chill Before Slicing: Allow the bars to cool completely and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing. This step ensures clean cuts and prevents the layers from falling apart.

Ingredient Notes

  • Graham Crackers: Use finely crushed graham cracker crumbs for a firm, cohesive crust. Gluten-free graham crackers can be substituted for a gluten-free version.
  • M&Ms: Any variety of M&Ms works well, but holiday-themed or flavored versions (e.g., peanut, caramel) can add a festive or unique twist.
  • Chocolate Chips: Semi-sweet chocolate chips balance the sweetness of the bars, but dark chocolate or milk chocolate chips can be used based on your preference.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk: This ingredient binds the layers together and adds a rich caramelized sweetness. Be sure to drizzle it evenly for the best results.

Storage Tips

  • Refrigeration: Store the bars in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. Bring to room temperature before serving for the best texture.
  • Freezing: These bars freeze well! Layer them with parchment paper in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature before enjoying.

Customizations

  • Flavor Variations: Add peanut butter chips, white chocolate chips, or caramel bits for extra layers of flavor.
  • Toppings: Sprinkle with crushed nuts, shredded coconut, or flaky sea salt for a creative twist.
  • Dietary Adjustments: Substitute dairy-free chocolate chips, vegan marshmallows, and plant-based condensed milk for a vegan-friendly version.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve at room temperature to enjoy the full gooey and crunchy textures.
  • Pair with milk, coffee, or hot cocoa for a comforting treat.
  • Cut into small squares for bite-sized servings at parties or bake sales.
