How to Grill Cod and Make Extra Crispy Fries at Home

  • Author: Lisa

Description

This Grilled Cod with Crispy Fries recipe delivers a light yet satisfying meal with rich flavor and crunchy texture. The cod is perfectly seasoned and grilled to flake at the touch, while the air fryer or oven-baked fries come out golden and crisp. With balanced seasoning, smart cooking techniques, and versatile serving options, this dish is ideal for a healthy dinner or a refined take on traditional fish and chips.

Ingredients

For the cod:

  • 4 cod fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the crispy fries:

  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut into thin fries
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Optional: fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates.
  2. Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, mix olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and lemon juice.
  3. Brush the cod fillets with the seasoning mixture on both sides. Set aside.
  4. Place the cod on the grill and cook for about 3–4 minutes per side, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Remove from grill and keep warm.
  5. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) for the fries.
  6. Toss the cut potatoes in a bowl with vegetable oil, salt, pepper, and paprika until evenly coated.
  7. Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  9. Serve the grilled cod with the crispy fries on the side. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh cod for best flavor and texture, but thawed frozen fillets work in a pinch.

  • Soaking the potatoes is key for crispy fries—don’t skip this step.

  • Adjust seasonings to your taste. Add chili flakes or herbs for more variety.

  • Use a meat thermometer to prevent overcooking cod.

  • Serve immediately for the best fry texture—crispy and hot right out of the oven or air fryer.
